Boys and Girls Club of Central Massachusetts
Air and Space School
April 24, 2010

We participated in the Boys and Girls Club of Central Massachusetts at their headquarters on Lindell Avenue in Leominster.

Set up started around 1:00 PM but I got there at 12:15. I picked a reasonable spot in the shade of a large tree. I had brought my 1/4 scale Piper Cub and the Giant P-47. I also brough my RealFlight RC Sim. I had programmed the sim with a 1/4 scale Piper Cub that flew just like mine.

The next thing to arrive was the pizza, coffee and donuts. This event was definately civilized.

Exhibiting were the Young Eagles - an organization of pilots who encourage youngsters to gain an interest in flying and give them access to introductory flights. Also there was the Boys and Girls Club folks who were teaching the kids about aerodynamics, as we were. You know, Bernoulli Principle, Coanda Effect, Angle of Attack, etc.

There was also an exhibit of space memorabilia. Next to us was an exhibit of model rockets.

Mike Turocy flew both his nitro heli and a smaller e-heli to the amazement of the crowd. There weren't too many people because it conflicted with the Little League opening day ceremonies. I guess the summers are just not long enough to get everything in; what?

Anyway, everyone who came to our exhibit seemed to enjoy what we had to offer. We had one very serious intention to join QMFC so we are looking forward to seeing at least one new member in the coming weeks.

4 time space shuttle commander, Charles Precourt joined us, arriving in a 1947 Bell helicopter (Yes, just like the ones in MASH). Commander Precourt currently lives in Utah, but he is a native of Massachusetts (Go Sox). He gave an interesting speach. How can a 4 times space shuttle commander not be interesting???
